Lionel Luthor is a former scientist and the father of Lex Luthor and his sister.

Early Life[]

Lionel worked all his life as a scientist and lived in the town of Smallville, Kansas. Around sixty-seven years before 2021, Lionel had a son, named Alexander. He later had another child, a daughter.
Meeting with Conner[]
After they escaped from Cadmus laboratories, Conner and Krypto traveled to Kansas and met Lionel Luthor, they found Lionel frail, aging, almost blind and alone in a farmhouse. Lionel was actually rather kind and inviting to Conner,[1] unaware of the young man's status as his grandson,[2] stating he never knew a Conner before, but was glad he did now. He allowed Conner and Krypto to come in out of the rain and shared a meal with his guests. He also began to recall the amazing brilliance of his son Alexander.

Remembering how Lionel used to beat Lex, Conner confronted him about beating his son, Lionel explained that he beat Lex because he was a stubborn, arrogant boy and he had no moral compass. Cadmus soldiers suddenly infiltrated Lionel's house, One of the soldiers knocked down Lionel as he protested. Conner and Krypto fought the soldiers, During the fight, bullets were fired at Lionel, but Conner stepped in front of bullets and saved Lionel.[1]

- In the DC comics, Lex Luthor's father is named Jules Luthor. The character was first given the name "Lionel" on the CW series Smallville. Due to the popularity of this portrayal of the character, he was given the name "Lionel" in the comics, too.
