Dr. Justin Cole is a psychiatrist from San Francisco[1] whom Koriand'r would call on multiple times for advice.
Biography[]
Justin met Kory in Las Vegas when Kory had briefly parted ways from the Titans. She brought him back to an apartment with the intention of sleeping together, and Justin asked her if there had been a party, to which she replies that it was just her, she was the party. During their encounter, Justin began to psychoanalyze Kory, telling her that he thought she was having a manic episode which she did not understand. He tells her he is a psychiatrist and that her behaviors tell him she might be seeking escapism with him and he's puzzled by her saying 'Humans' as if she is not one herself, suggesting to Kory that since he's there maybe they could talk. When he tries to kiss her again, Kory turns away. Instead of sleeping together, the pair talk about Kory's mental state, expressing how during her time with amnesia she had been allowed to live outside of the obsession with her destiny and discover new friendships, love, and freedom, but now feels stuck with neither a home, family nor a destiny. She then tells Justin to leave and he gives her his card on the way out.
He is next seen in season three, calling Kory as he had just seen her on the news giving a report from the Titans' latest successful mission, surprised by her real identity. She doesn't recall who he is until he reminds her that he was the therapist, and after apologizing for not calling him, Kory suggests that they start talking: no partying, just talk and he agrees. After the death of Jason Todd, Kory calls Justin for advice, informing him that there had been a death in her family. She tells him about her issues with her strange episodes and visions, and he assures her that grief can do many things to a person. He informs her that her episodes sound like a a phenomenon called a 'parasomnia episode' and encourages her to call him again as maybe he can help with medications and therapy.
The final time she calls him, Justin jokes that she was at the airport needing him to pick her up and off to a date somewhere, but instead she tells him her concerns about her mental health. She remarks that she could have killed him, but doesn't elaborate who when Justin asks. Justin makes the mistake of trying to assure her that being Human includes feelings like she is experiencing and Kory, frustrated, corrects him that she isn't Human. She then apologizes for calling him and hangs up.
Personality[]
Justin is shown to be a compassionate man with a great admiration and affection for Kory, and was possibly a workaholic: turning what would have been a sexually intimate moment into a therapy session for Kory, opportunistically leaving his business card for her, and remarking that he didn't often party or have one night stands. Despite this, he behaved somewhat unprofessionally by repeatedly flirting with Kory while she was his unofficial patient. His feelings for Kory appeared to be one sided, as Justin would joke and make advances on Kory when she called to talk, likely hoping to rekindle a relationship with her when she returned to San Francisco.
