The Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) is a police department located in Gotham City, United States of America.
History[]
Sometime on or before 2016, Jim Gordon became the police commissioner of the GCPD. During this time, Jim worked closely with the city's resident vigilante, Batman, and his sidekick Robin, often using the Bat-Signal to call upon the duo.[1]
Later, in 2016, Commissioner Gordon commented on a series of thefts that the GCPD were investigating.[2] Sometime afterwards, a new vigilante emerged, Batgirl, though she was later shot by the Joker. Around this time, Commissioner Gordon was frozen in ice by Mr. Freeze, causing him to tragically die of a heart attack. Afterwards, his daughter Barbara succeeded Jim as police commissioner.[1]
In 2017, Dick Grayson transferred from Gotham to Detroit Police Department, hoping to get away from Batman's influence.[3] After a string of murders of former Haly's Circus performers, photos of them were sent to Gotham PD, addressed to Robin.[4]
In 2020, the GCPD were chasing the Joker, who had escaped from Arkham Asylum. The chase ended at Farrelly Amusement Park after injuring Alvarez and various other officers, where he was then confronted by Robin. Due to Robin briefly being unable to act, the Joker was able to beat him to death with a crowbar as Commissioner Gordon ordered all uniformed officers to the amusement park. They then found Robin's body next to a subdued Joker, who allowed himself to be apprehended by the GCPD.[1]
