"Souls" is the ninth episode of the third season of Titans, and the thirty-third episode overall. It premiered on HBO Max on September 23, 2021.

Synopsis

After waking up on a mysterious train, Tim Drake teams with two familiar heroes to locate an elusive bridge back to the land of the living. Meanwhile, Rachel grapples with her own powers in a desperate attempt to resurrect Donna.

• Rachel Roth and Donna Troy both make returns in this episode, with Rachel having not been seen since "Nightwing"; Donna makes her first full appearance since the aforementioned episode, having previously cameoed in "Lazarus".
  • In addition, Don Hall also returns since "Hank and Dawn", reuniting with his brother Hank Hall.
• Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake's full names are revealed to be Bruce Thomas Wayne and Timothy S. Drake respectively.
• This is the first episode to be in black-and-white. However, scenes in the real world (those depicting Bruce, Rachel in Themyscira and Donna and Tim post-resurrection) were all in color.
• Coincidentally, fellow HBO Max DC series Doom Patrol aired their first three episodes in conjunction with this episode, with the third ("Dead Patrol") also exploring the a place after death, though with notable differences.
  • Both episodes also feature a character in the place after named "Malcolm" who assists and ultimately sacrifices himself to save the main characters from demonic entities.
• When Donna and Hank are attempting to conjure weapons against the ghouls at the bridge, Donna accidentally summons Garth's favourite orange soda while Hank summons Dick Grayson's old Birdarangs.
• The ending scene where Donna saves Bruce from an attempted suicide via fire mirrors the way in which her father died.
• Hank unfavorably compares Jason Todd's Red Hood suit to Slade Wilson's suit.
