Alfred Pennyworth (1942-2020)[1] was an ally of Bruce Wayne as well as his legal guardian.

Biography[]

Alfred was born in 1942 and began employment for Thomas and Martha Wayne as their family butler. After the Wayne's were murdered in front of their son Bruce, Alfred raised Bruce at Wayne Manor for the remainder of Bruce's childhood.[2] Alfred remained under Bruce's employment as his butler well into his career as Batman.

After Bruce Wayne adopted Dick Grayson, Alfred suggested against it, citing his vigilante activities as a problem.[3]

Over a decade later, in an attempt to get some money, Dick Grayson called Alfred in the hopes of getting some money to help Rachel Roth. Alfred complied and transferred him the money.[4]

At one point, Alfred traveled with Bruce on business regarding the Justice League.[5]

After the Titans defeated Trigon, Alfred informed Bruce that Dick would be stopping by Wayne Manor to talk with him.[6]

When Dick was trying to track down Slade Wilson, he hallucinated Bruce doing an impression of Alfred tending to his wounds.[7]

In 2020, Alfred died of unknown causes and was buried in the Wayne family plot.[8] His funeral was attended by Bruce, Dick, Barbara Gordon and presumably Jason Todd. According to Barbara, she and Dick were severely sad while Bruce remained completely stoic.[9]

Alternate Reality[]

In a fake reality created by Trigon, Alfred is mentioned to have been dead for sometime by 2023, having died from unknown causes.[10]
